はじめに：align は「揃える」だけではありません
align は「揃える」と訳されますが、ビジネス英語では「目標や認識をそろえる」「方向性を合わせる」といった、プロジェクト運営に欠かせないキーワードになっています。
この記事では、align のコアイメージから、会議・メール・チャットでよく使うフレーズ、似た表現との違いまでをまとめて整理します。
align のコアイメージ：「向きを同じにして並べる」
align のイメージは、「バラバラだったものの向きをそろえて、一列に並べる」です。
物理的に「位置を揃える」だけでなく、「メンバーの認識・目標・優先順位をそろえる」といった抽象的な場面でよく使われます。

agree / adjust / align のざっくり使い分け
似たような場面で出てくる表現との違いを、イメージで押さえておきます。
- agree：
人の「意見」に賛成する。- agree with you / agree on this plan など。
- adjust：
具体的なものを微調整する。- adjust the schedule / adjust the volume など。
- align：
「方向性や認識」を揃える。複数の人・チーム・計画が同じ方向を向く。
同じような文でも、単語を変えるとニュアンスが変わります。
- We agree with this plan.
→ この計画の内容に賛成です。 - We need to adjust this plan.
→ この計画を少し調整する必要があります。 - We need to align this plan with the company strategy.

- それぞれが「意見への賛成（agree）」「細かい調整（adjust）」「認識・方向性を揃える（align）」のどれに近いかを考える。
- 「認識・方向性を揃える」に近いものを、align / aligned を使って英訳してみる。
